Web design price does not matter!!!

You are interested in web design price as many other users who are looking for "web design pricing" or "web design cost".

We will tell you once more - web design pricing does not matter. Puzzled? Let us take a minute and explain ourselves.

Web design pricing is probably the most controversial topic in the industry. There is no universal formula for estimating the cost of a new web site or the cost of a website redesign. Web design prices vary from cheap website design $199 to millions of dollars. Let's not take the extremes and concentrate on the middle section. Let's say you are a consultant and need to build a site for your one man business. Please note we intentionally selected a small business with one man operation. Let's assume you do not have any other expenses except the time you spend on your work. And let's assume in order to make a half-decent living you would like to make at least $40,000/year. So far, so good.

At this point you are sometimes facing a design pricing dilemma with choosing a company.

Let say there are two options available:

VERY nice and professional design for $5000

Affordable web design for $1000.

In reality the price difference is way smaller, I just made it bigger to prove the point. An average site lives for 5-10 years before it needs a redesign. Let's assume your site will not require redesign for 7 years. In the current fast lived environment let assume 50% of the clients will come from the website.

So the total expected income from the website is:

$40,000/year * 50% * 7 years = $140,000

Now, let's take the difference between the pricing $5000-$1000=$4000

And calculate it as a percentage of the total expected income. $4000/$140.000= 2.8%

So we came to purely mathematical conclusion: if the more expensive site is better than the low cost web design site by at least 2.8% it is worth taking the better site. It always worth taking a better and more professional site because it will pay off in the short and in the long run. It is not worth losing $50,000 worth of clients because you saved a few hundred dollars on the development.

So why "Web design price does not matter!!!" - because it will be a such a small proportion of your total business revenues in the long run.
